As any significant prize-giving event approaches, one notices a clamor to include additional classifications to honor overlooked contributions and delight the passions of enthusiasts dedicated to specific genres.
Another commentator has already made advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. The same goes for tabletop games, representing someone's personal cause. However, I must insist if I try to elbow in front just as with other blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification for why my demand remains most pressing and important of all. The demand is this: There should be an award type for logic-based games.
Organizing Gaming Categories
Classifying creative works isn't exact; it remains highly personal, and inevitably spark debates and end in fuzzy definitions. There’s a reason cinema institutions steer clear of genre categories. Yet it remains an unavoidable compromise within the realm of video games, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.
For the full spectrum of interactive entertainment excellence to be recognized, and for games of all stripes to compete fairly, classification by type becomes crucial.
Existing Game Classification System
The major gaming awards offer these award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these award types successfully include a lot of ground, allowing placement for most games within them.
Different situation exists for logic-based experiences. There’s simply nowhere for their placement. Think about these outstanding current releases, all very different: the architectural riddles of one title, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, engaging interpersonal challenges from additional release. Where could they possibly go within current classifications? Nowhere, that’s where.
Acknowledgment Issues
There are dozens excellent brain-teasers published annually without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, if they accidentally match classification types such as Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging Indie races.
- An iconic brain-teaser got overlooked in any category in 2014
- Another creative title received no nominations in 2019
- A beloved organization game got ignored that year
- Limited numbers of puzzle games managed to sneak into small studio or handheld classifications
Importance of Logic Titles
These are often compact experiences, yet the craft of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Iconic mobile puzzle games stand as the most-played games globally continuing this trend for an extended period.
The iconic tile-matching title competes with famous sandbox experiences competing to become most purchased experience; it also contends for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation with almost every other genre.
Proposal and Rationale
Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter that issue. It would be easy to populate a field of five interesting, varied, worthy titles annually without trouble — or rather, with difficulty, since numerous excellent so many good games out.
To emphasize again, these include experiences that otherwise have no home during prominent ceremonies. Brain-teaser creators function at the demanding boundary of video game design, developing some of most fundamental forms of gaming itself. Just like film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay generations.
