The star has given the full amount of his twenty-five thousand pound honor prize money to the MVT, which functions to save the United Kingdom's independent music venues.

The star was awarded the prize on mid-October as his new release People Watching was named the best record of the previous year.

He has opted to donate the funds to the Music Venues Trust, in appreciation of the vital role grassroots venues fulfilled in his beginning days.

"I would not have achieved this success if it wasn't for all the gigs I played around the North East, and beyond, when I was beginning," stated Fender. "These venues are iconic, but they are in difficulty."

Beginning in 2023, over 150 of these spaces have ceased operations – approximately 16% of the entire UK sector.

In the last year, top acts such as the band Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the MVT in its initiatives to help venues survive, by including a modest fee to their ticket costs, which goes to help independent venues.

Fender also joined in, raising more than £100,000 on his live tour to help 38 grassroots venues across Britain.

The donation assisted venues that were confronting imminent closure due to difficulties caused by floods, fire incidents and bereavements, as well as permit problems, court cases and sound issues.

Other venues received funding support in upgrading amenities and technical equipment that positively impacted performers and concertgoers.

"The concept that funds from performances in large arenas supports the independent spots, where it kicks off for artists like me, is just sensible," Fender has commented.

He is not the first artist to give his Mercury Prize prize money to worthy causes.

In Pulp earned the award in 1996 for their album their work, frontman the singer declared that the band would give their prize money to the charity the charity.

During 2002, musician the artist shared her bounty across multiple organizations, including the children's charity and a Sickle Cell charity.

"And I contributed a £1,000 to my local community centre, to their gymnastics program, because I trained in gymnastics when I was younger and they needed updated gear," the artist told the media.

Previously, the band gave their prize money to the community center that developed their band, in addition to other independent music bodies.

Also 1994 winners the group donated their prize to a charity for MS after a close contact was diagnosed the disease.

"The victory was sufficient," said artist Small. "The money was the cherry on top but we could do without the cherry, because we had the cake. So our victory affected somebody else's life."

Recently, the Music Venues Trust announced it had protected two small stages in that region, by placing them under local control.

The Joiners in Southampton and the other in the city were acquired under the Own Our Venues initiative, which is funded by the arts council and music fans who purchase "shares" in the properties.
